Oman Air International is the national airline of the country of Oman. The main base for this airline is Muscat International Airport, but it operates in many parts of the world. Oman Air operates both international and domestic flights. Over the years it has become one of the top airlines of the world.
In 2010, Omar Air started offering mobile as well as Wi-Fi internet services on some of their routes. They were the first airline to introduce these services in the market, which gave them a big boost when it comes to popularity. Omar Air International was founded in 1993, although its history goes back to 1970. In 1970, Oman International Services was introduced and later on, expanded its services in order to cater to the increasing number of passengers. It was in 1981 that Oman International Services became a joint stock company and purchase a number of carriers from Gulf Air. The next year, more new equipment was purchased and services were increased. Later on, Oman International Services came to be known as Oman International Airlines.
The first domestic flight of Oman Air was from Muscat to Sulalah, while the first international flight was to Dubai. Later on, more destinations were added and more carriers were also purchased. Previously, the airline used Boeing 737 but then Airbus was also included. In 1998, Oman Air became part of the International Air Transport Association. In 2007, the government of Oman increased their stakes in the airlines to 80 percent and some strategic changes also followed. More long haul routes were planned and services were started in more far off areas.
Oman Air International has a number of achievements in its name. In 2001, it won the award for the best tourism promoter in Oman. Also, it was awarded the AHS excellence certificate for good compliance to all the IATA regulations and standards. Moreover, Oman Air is the second airline of the Middle East to introduce E-ticketing, and have now moved to a complete computerized booking system. Another great achievement is that the business class has been ranked as being the third best in the entire world.
Oman Air International has become a major player in the list of Middle Eastern airlines. Over the years, it has transitioned from a regional player to an international one, and has shown its determination to become a world class airline. The main reasons behind the success are the constant efforts to reinvent to airline and its overall image in the eyes of the customers. Oman Air is planning to offer better schedules and flights to passengers, as well as more frequency of flights domestically and internationally.
